Ecopsychology is a budding discipline that recognizes the complex interconnection, interaction, and interdependence between the natural world and the human aspect of this world. It is a cross-pollination among the sciences and humanities that provides a critical and necessary understanding that the well being, the flourishing of the planet and that of the human and non human world must include sustainable and mutually enhancing relationships.
Biologists, with their subtle and complex knowledge of the natural world, have provided us with a rich field of imagery. Psychologists have also contributed to the repertoire of imagery with their ever richer descriptions of the human psyche, and of the mind. Depth psychologists, in particular, have deepened our understanding of archetypes and shadow, or unknown elements of the psyche or soul. Developing an ecopsychological lens allows us to see ourselves, others, and the world in more relational and interdependent ways.
