Whether invited or not, change happens, not only in the natural and social worlds we inhabit, but in our souls as well. This Community Gathering will explore ways in which we might learn to welcome the complexities of change as beautiful and life-giving, rather than as something to fear and resist.
Our hope is that to approach change in all its complex ecological, biological, neurological and psychological aspects esthetically, would lead to the discovery of new ways of living and being.
We live in an exciting time: scholars in the fields of Depth Psychology, Consciousness Studies and Neuroscience are now uncovering the enormous role played by image, symbol and narrative in our mental lives. This makes possible new and fertile interactions between these fields and depth psychology. At this gathering, we will delve into the deep seated images, symbols and stories that motivate and dictate our behavior - and suggest ways to create and activate imagery and narrative that would promote sustainable change for ourselves and our world.
Together we will explore how we might bring a mythic sensibility to our understanding of change, forms of discernment that recognize how closely intertwined are our longings for harmony, proportion, and for beauty. Over the course of this weekend, we will examine the multitude of ways that we might re-imagine our relationship to the meaning of change, in order to engage with the processes of transformation and regeneration that hold the potential for re-creating a new humanitas.
